Our corporate history reaches back more than 60 years when Anton Horvat sen. founded a small wood processing company focused on manufacturing of furniture. Back in the early days, windows and doors and a bit later also kitchens and tailor made furniture were in the center of our small production. Utmost attention to detail and a careful selection of materials – based on long-standing experience and craftmanship – remains to be core of our work.

The new spirit, combined with the excellence in wood processing passed on over generations, Pohištvo Horvat entered into new markets of premium made to measure furniture for business and private purposes as well as into the shop fitting industry.

Modern technologies like CNC machines or UV lacqueering line and efficient production processes foster highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction. Today delivers to customers serving the pharmaceutical and life science industry and is regularly audited and certified by national and international customers and partners.

Together with our partners – Architects, Real Estate Developers, Shopfitting Experts as well as specialized suppliers to the pharmaceutical and life science industry – we design and create bespoke solutions made of all commonly used materials.

High end individualization for shipbuilding

We do understand ourselves as true craftsman with a specific talent for wood processing. In particular, all sorts of curvings, 3D-modelling of MDF and Kerrock materials as well as high end wooden appliances are core strength of our team.

With respect to coatings our capabilities cover the entire range of colour and finishings, e.g. high gloss, deep mat, semi mat coating. Our proprietary coating and paint shop allows us to test and improvised with different colours, glazings and base materials in order to comply with respective project requirements and the ideas of our customers, eventually.

Materials

clients individual needs

We primarily work with wood, stoneware (like Kerrock® or Corian®), HPL, MDF, Veneer as well as with a wide range of other materials like letherette, glass, stone, stainless steel etc. to meet our clients individual needs. In our own coating and paint shop we do different kinds of surface finishings. To us, these inhouse capabilities are important to ensure utmost quality of our end-products as well as reliability with respect to project timelines.

We do maintain long-lasting and well established relationships with all major raw material suppliers.

Thus, we can ensure efficient and economic order and project management — also to provide competitive quotations. However, we are flexible in adjusting to new partners and team members and cooperate always and only to our clients best interest – since more than 60 years.

Composite Materials

Corian, for example, is a composite material made from acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate, a material derived from bauxite ore. Its primary use is as a countertop/benchtop surface, though it has many other applications. We use it a lot for kitchen worktops, sinks and washing basis as well as all sorts of laboratory worktops. Kerrock – a quite similar product made in Slovenia – is a good alternative and often used when economic requirements are playing a role in the decision making process.

Composite materials have the following characteristics:

• Durable, solid surface resistant to heavy mechanical impact
• Non-porous and good resistancy to heat and chemicals
• Seamless joints and pleasant to the touch
• Simple care and easy repair
• Broad variety of colours allowing endless creativity

HPL

High Pressure Laminates (HPL) are considered to be among the most durable decorative surface materials. HPL is available with special performance characteristics, ranging from indoor decoatives to outdoor heavy duty use, including high fire and chemical resistancy. We often used HPL for furniture for medical facilities, office equipment and for goods exposed to abrasion, impacts, scratches and extreme temperature amplitudes.

MDF

Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. MDF is generally denser than plywood. Over time, the word »MDF« has become a generic name for any dry process fibre board. Typical MDF has a hard, flat, smooth surface that makes it ideal for veneering and perfect for lacqueering. Medium-density fiberboard is the most versatile building material we use. Because it’s fairly durable, it’s a good choice for practical projects like shelving and storage cabinets.

Veneered MDF provides many of the advantages of MDF with a decorative wood veneer surface layer. We often use MDF with veneer surfaces in home furniture projects or for shopfitting purposes. In modern construction, spurred by the high costs of hardwoods, manufacturers have been adopting this approach to achieve a high quality finishing wrap covering over a standard MDF board.

Chipboard

Chipboard is an engineered wood product manufactured from wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even sawdust, and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded. Its a fairly inexpensive raw material apt for all different kinds of furniture and appliances. Surfaces and worktops are typically finished with Melamine or Laminates and edges are covered with special thermoplastic edges used for small-surface area coatings.

Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC) is a very versatile product which we work with almost every single day. It comes in variety of a fashionable designs and colours and ranges between 8 to 25 mm in thicknesses. Its widely used in furniture, shopfitting, kitchens, bedrooms and hotels and office furniture.
